WEFAX System

WEFAX satellites give anything up to 400 images a day and can provide relay images of the other side of the world. The resolution varies between 2.5 and 10km. There are 3 sensors, visible, infrared and upper atmosphere water vapour. The main frequency is 1691MHz and we provide a special receiver for this purpose. This signal from a 90cm (3 foot) dish and is amplified by a low noise preamplifier mounted directly on the dish. The 1691MHz signal is run down special high quality cable into our WEFAX receiver. The input to the receiver is 1691MHz and the output is an audio signal that you can hear.

There are people who convert the 1691MHz signal down to 137MHz to use their existing APT receiver, the philosophy is fraught with problems and customers who have tried this and then upgraded to our WEFAX receiver have reported a huge increase in image quality and resolution. Our WEFAX receiver has been designed to provide optimum performance.

WEFAX Geostationary Antennas

The 90cm (3 foot) dish is the standard for Meteosat, GOES and GMS. Made from spun aluminium it is robust and strong. Brackets and supports are made from stainless steel.

Shown here on the optional patio mount stand, the dish can be at ground level or mounted on the side of your building.

For those with limited space or wanting the ultimate in portability, our 9 inch square (23cm) Patch antenna for Meteosat and GOES is for the traveller who needs a complete system in a brief case, or for the flat dweller with a window !

When used with our WEFAX preamplifier and WEFAX receiver, this tiny antenna will produce colour moving images from the Meteosat and GOES satellites.

1.7GHz PHEMT Preamplifier

Our geostationary preamplifier is regarded by many as the best available and has a noise figure of just 0.45dB or less. It covers 1690-1710MHz with 35dB of gain. This high gain allows the use of 20m of cable thereby placing the sensitive electronics indoors away from the effects of temperature and the weather. The unit is IP67 water resistant class. The voltage range is 8-14V at a current of 80mA and is powered automatically by the cable from our receiver. N connector input, F type output.

1.7GHz Receiver

The WEFAX receiver is self contained and is designed to be used with the preamplifier above. It receives the satellite directly on 1691MHz. The output from the receiver is audio and is plugged directly into any of our interfaces. This receiver is for Meteosat and GOES. Enquire for GMS, INSAT and GOMS.

Cable

We supply RF cable in two lengths, 20m (65 feet) and 40m (130 feet). This cable is extremely high quality 75 ohm semi-air spaced and comes with connectors ready fitted. This cable is only 6mm (1/4") diameter and outperforms most 1/2" cable due to its construction and dielectric losses. It is foil and braid screened to eliminate any influx of interference. Although other, sometimes cheaper cable appears to have the same specification, in practice we find that it does not offer the same performance or deteriorates in the sun and rain.
